50th Anniversary Dinner:

SOLD OUT **** Saturday 27 July 2019 ****SOLD OUT

Saturday, July 27, 2019 at 6:30 PM – 11:30 PM

Venue: Springfield House 256 New Line Rd Dural

Celebrating 50 Years of the Hills Hawks, 1969 – 2019!
There are many dates to look forward to at the start of each new season: the first-round games, the finals series, presentation day, Purple Socks Campaign, our famous Minis Gala Day and this year our 50th Dinner Anniversary, which will take place on Saturday 27th of July at Springfield House!

Hills Hawks Football Club is a community focused club that has been part of the Galston community since February 1969, when the minutes of the Hills District Memorial Club Sports Council recorded that the HDMC Sports Council entered teams in the local soccer competition; at which point the history of Hills Hawks Football Club began!

The fantastic grounds and facilities we have today, which started as a rough oval with a trotting track around it in 1969, Hills Hawks FC has been steadily growing through the years, both on and off the field. Numerous teams have been champions in the past 50 years, including mini soccer teams having made their way through to Premier League, our wonderful clubhouse built in 2012, 500 registered players and this year, 49 teams. Our club keeps welcoming new and old players, boys and girls, junior, senior and premier league players as well as men’s & ladies’ social competitions.

From its inception in 1969 and through to the present day, the Hills Hawks Football Club is more than a football club: we bring together and support families in the local community to become one larger, single family. There are families who have been involved in the local soccer community now for four generations. The Hills Hawks Football Club has been an instrumental part in the sporting and social development of the Galston, Arcadia, Dural and Glenorie communities.

The Club wouldn’t be where it is today without the support of the local community, the numerous volunteers and the dedicated committee members, along with all its sponsors including the Glenorie RSL Club, Bendigo Galston Community Bank Branch, Hills District Machinery, ClearState Property Group, Hills Self Storage, CVW Engineering, Turrell Building, Chizzo's Pizzeria, Coppernest Property Group and IGA Galston.

The strong ties of friendships developed, and the sense of community built through the Hills Hawks FC has been profound, creating a sense we are one big family. We wish to thank everyone who has ever been and continues to be a part of our wonderful football community and look forward to the celebration event on 27July.
Happy 50th Anniversary! Go the Hawkies!!!

PREMIER LEAGUE UPDATE
Special Match Report, June Long Weekend, Monday 10 June 2019

Premier League Firsts: vs Gladesville Ravens

Venue: Peel Park

Midway through the second half scores locked at nil all, play in the Raven's goal box area, high ball hit an overhanging tree, ball came down and hit a Raven’s player on the hand.

Referee consulted with the Assistant Referee and awarded a penalty kick to Hills Hawks.

Our Hawks shooter Blake, placed the ball on the spot, lined it up and then softly passed the ball to the Raven's keeper.

In a game that was hard played, and both teams trying to get a point on the board, a moment of true sportsmanship was witnessed by all.

In these times where we spend a lot of time battling with bad play and behaviour from players ,coaches and spectators in game, this moment occurred on a Monday afternoon after both teams had already played games on the Saturday at a little cold and dark pitch down at Gladesville in the GHFA Premier League competition.

Hawkies shortly after got their goal and won the game 1:0.

Well done to all the players from both teams

A true sporting moment to be proud of.

Ian Robertson

President HHFC

After 13 rounds both Premier League Firsts and Reserves Team are placed 6th on the ladder.

Really close

Such a great game played by all the boys. First half we looked like we were going to win with the score 2 v 1 our way. Another 2 scored by our boys in the second half, however Redfield had an exceptional second half, scoring 4. After the match we were congratulated by the Redfield coach as being one of the most challenging teams they have played.

In the end Pennant Hills were a tough team, but the Mighty Hawks didn’t give up!

Round 8 Under 8's Gold vs Thornleigh

It was nice to have a game on another field to change it up a bit for the team! It was a smokey day bit that didn’t stop us from giving it our all, breaking through from 1-1 at half time to a big thoroughly deserved win!
Brae demonstrated great passing skills and was a fantastic goalie in the second half. Knox was all over the field exhibiting consistent tackling and great running with the ball. Izzy was so involved in defence and tackling this week and had her first almost shot for goal. Spencers ever improving sideline running, with the ball and passing or attempting goal has been wonderful to see.Tyler was a constant man of action on the field showing great ball handling in attack and scoring an amazing goal. Liam played both halves of the game this week as he loves it in the goals but showed he is able to get in there and make a difference in the field as well. Jake took to goals with ease the first half and took control of the field in the second half even scoring a ripper of a shot. Cruze was just about unstoppable this week, he held position consistently, thought about passes each time after controlled runs with the ball down the sideline and had shot after shot for goal becoming our days top goal scorer. Casey shone through as he seems to do at away games, getting amongst the action consistently and was more and more confident and powerful in his defence and attack throughout the match! Well done Casey on Player of the Week!

Loss(0-5) to Roselea FC a

Match Report Saturday 1st June - Roselea FC

We headed off to Carlingford to play Rosela FC. The weather was kind to us and it was a good day for Soccer. We started the game strong in the first half and had many chances at goal with Emma and Jack H both finding space on many occasions but unable to find the back of the net. Our fullbacks were working hard and cutting the ball off well in the midfield. We finished the first half strong and were down by two.

The second half commenced and the Hawkies were fighting hard. A soft own goal saw Rosela add another to their total. A couple of late goals before the final whistle saw the score line blow out to 5-0.

The score does not reflect the effort that the Hawkies put in. This was by far our best game yet. All the players have really stepped it up a notch and are starting to play together well as a team. We are looking forward to next week.

You should be proud of your effort today guys!!!

Outstanding Teamwork

What a great display of Teamwork by our boys. Normanhurst put up a great challenge but just couldn't break through our boys defense. When it came to Yellow As attack, nothing could surpass the brilliant trick footwork & outstanding teamwork the boys did for goals. Johnny's right foot was on fire, scoring 4 quick goals, with Jack & Theo following suit with scoring goals in the 1st & 2nd half as well - brilliant to watch from the sidelines. We saw some great chasing of the ball from Stephen, Theo & Kaylin, bringing 'our ball' up the sidelines & straight across to the centre for an easy score! Poor Normanhust didn't stand a chance with the McFarland brothers arming our goals strong throughout.Man of the Match was a very tuff pick this week, however Kaylin really did step up to the mark with some great attack skills & getting the ball down ready for scoring! Well done Kaylin. It seems all our Tuesday 'foot skills' training was well in play! Can't wait for next weeks game - GO Yellow A's!

Round 9

An exhausted team at the end of the game today. No subs kept everyone on their toes and used up all their energy. Just coming away with a well fought win!
Cruz proved himself as a great goalie in the first half and getting on the field in the second to score a tremendous goal. Spencer displayed his speed over and over again running the length of the field to regain the ball when lost to the opposition and doing his best in goals in the second half. Issy and Liam held position well in the backs displaying ever improving confidence in their tackling and passing. Jake was our top scorer of they and displayed great ball handling and passing. Casey was confident in defence not missing a tackle today and had a great sideline run. Tyla stood out today as a dominating player in all areas. His feet did not stop moving. From chasing down in defence to skilfully controlling the ball while stepping around multiple players to calling and being there to take the pass from his team mates! Well done Tyla on player of the week for the second time this season!

Loss(1-5) to Epping FC b

Match Report Saturday 1st June - Epping FC

Two away games on the trot see us heading to Karonga school.

The Hawkies are now starting to show real team spirit now and can sense that they are getting better and better every week. Epping FC started very strong and were putting us under alot of pressure. Noah in Goals was keeping the score level but the pressure was definitely being applied by Epping. Something had to give and the first goal was scored.

The Hawkies then had their tails up and were attaching at will. We had a couple of shots on goal with Emma and Jack H both getting involved.

We were nearing half time and Epping managed to score again.

The second half saw Epping score a quick goal. This unfortunately knocked the wind out of the Hawkies sails a little and Epping exploited this with another quick goal. 3-0 to Epping.

The Hawkies found their second wind and were really pressing for a goal. Jack found the back of the net and the Hawkies were now on the board.

The Hawkies continued to press for more goals and at the death knock Epping broke away to score there last goal. Final score 1-5

All the boys improved with their ball control.
Arjen, Flynn excellent kicking and chasing. Awesome running and breaking away by Mav who was unlucky not to score a couple of times.
Great attacking and defence by Kane. Mason and Hayden showed great ball control and follow up.

Round 10 Under 8's Gold A vs Epping

Second week in a row with no subs and our team showed that they are all in all the time! Up against an evenly matched team our kids showed us what they are made of. Not only did they physically exhaust themselves they showed great sportsmanship through out the game to each other and our opponents.
Today everyone showed how they are learning and growing with their individual soccer skills. Holding position, controlling the ball, eyes up, look for space and passing is what we have been working on and everyone on the field could walk away today and say “Yes I did that!”
Today our player of the week went onto the field on a mission. He completely commanded his position. Thinking about everyone run, pass, tackle and shot for goal that was presented to him throughout the game he was unstoppable. Well done Cruz what a game!
An amazing team effort to came away with a win!

Match Report Saturday 15th June - Redfield FC

The Hawkies were back at Redfield. Last time we played here we met a very well drilled Redfeild side so it was going to be interesting to see how we went against this Redfield side.

From the start of the game it was obvious that the Hawkies had come to play today. They were very determined and focused on getting possesion of the ball. The tackeling and hustleing by our fullbacks was supurb.

Play was very even and the Hawkies had many chances at goal but couild not manage to get a clear shot at goal.

Unfortunately the Hawkies let in a goal mid way through the first half but that was it.

The half time brak saw the Hawkies all reved up ready to go. This is the first time this year that we have gone into the break only 1 down.

The second half started and the Hawkies were on fire. It looked like they were going to score on so many occations. The play was swinging from one end of the field to the other and some great runs down the filed were made by the Hawkies.

A final push for a goal by the Hawkies saw then exposed at the back and a late goal was scored by Redfield.

The quality of play from the Hawkies was sensational. They are really geling together well and showing some great promise.

Shaun worked hard to take the ball into space and put in an awesome effort. Ruby put amazing pressure on the opposition always getting in there and tackling. James ran all over the field, putting pressure on the opposition and showing us some of his great dribbling skills. And Flynn showed us some of his amazing kicks that we are getting accustomed to!
It was great to see the effort the team put in this week. Congratulations to Maddy for being awarded player of the week!

Match Report Saturday 22nd June - Roselea FC

The Hawkies were back at Hayes this week and were ready to fight another day. We were there nice and early as we had BBQ duty. Big thanks to Rebecca for assisting and to Jack T who was the tong master again.

We were up against the Redbacks again who are always a strong team. After the last couple of weeks are hopes were high that we would be able to hold our own in this game. We were one player down but luckily Brea from the U8 Gold A team filled in for us.

We were playing well and play was very even. The Redbacks had some very good players but the Hawkies were not allowing them to have any space.

The Redbacks had a couple of shots and goal but had sprayed then wide. The first goal from the Redbacks came from a goal kick early in the first half.

For the second time this year we went into the half time break only one goal down. We knew we had a chance so the Hawkies were pushing hard. The quality of the play was high but we were struggling to get out of our half. The break came and Jack H had a great run down the side line with Emma running with him. Unfortunately we just couldn’t finish it off.

The Redbacks managed to sneak another past our goalie midway through the second half.

The Hawkies had their tails in the air and were attaching the Redbacks goal. The Hawkies had run the Readback all over the field and we were finishing strong. We had 5 corners in a row and were so close on so many occasions to finding the back of the net but we just couldn't get a clear shot on goal.

Great effort today from the Hawkies. We are all so proud of you and how far you have come.

Good game but boys lost again. I must highlight the fact that one of the opponents parents brought German Sheppard dog and stood on the Middle side line and every time ball go out it try to chase it as well as kids. We have asked multiple times to move further away with it but he refused. So I am shocked as how big dogs are allowed on the pitch.

Win(4-0) against North Epping Rangers SC

Another win

We nearly had a full team today, with special guest appearance from Jack Fraser. Boys showed great passing through game and we scored two goals in first half with another two second half. North Epping unfortunately we’re a player down but fought to the end, with some impressive goalie work. Or goalies also showed some good skills with Jack Proudford doing a great goalpost save.

We won - great effort by all players with goals scored by Riley and Sean. Justin played his first game of the season after recovering from a broken arm. So was great to have a full team.

Win(2-1) against Ryde Panthers FC

A CLOSE CALL.....

Only 11 players today and no reserves! Coach Gavin away and a huge thank you to Brett Lewer for standing in as coach today!
Tough first half - 1 nil oppositions way. Pumped in the fruit and lollies at half time and that seemed to wake up the team. Second half was much better with 2 goals scored (Lockie and Toby) out of about 50 attempts. Have to improve on marking players and avoiding penalties.
Well played considering we had no reserves and everyone played a full game. Need to fight on as we play the top team next Saturday 8/6 at Hayes. GO HAWKIES!!!!

Draw(4-4) with Ryde Panthers FC

Even stevens

With 2 goals by Ryde Panthers in the first 5 minutes we thought that we were in for a loss. However the boys woke up and started attacking. They then scored two goals in quick succession evening score. Another goal from us saw the boys up 3-2 before Ryde Panthers scores their third goal before half time. Second half was tougher for both teams with only one goal scored by each for a draw. We saw Lucas back on the field after a few weeks not being able to play and demonstrated some good passing in second half and our goalies had some good saves. Another game of lots of tumbles but the boys shone with their passing and teamwork.

Loss(0-1) to Eastwood St Andrews AFC

A real Nail Biter......

Played against the top team today and we fought to the very end. Eastwood St Andrews stuck to us like glue and kept up their defence the whole time, and we returned the same. They had a huge amount of attempts at goal but Riley was too good for them. All our players kept the pressure on the entire time and never gave up! All players today deserved a "player of the match" award. The opposition only got a goal in the last 3 minutes of the second half! Well played Hawkies! Let's keep up the momentum for next week at Hayes against Epping FC (whom we have not versed yet). An exciting game to watch!

Draw(0-0) with Eastwood St Andrews AFC

NIL

Last time we played this team we lost 1-4, so the boys were slightly nervous going into today’s game. However from the start we held strong. Our defense and goalies did a great job of not letting any goals through and our attack got a number of shots at goal but couldn’t convert.

Draw(1-1) with Epping FC

Our First Draw of the Season......

Down 2 players due to illness, and then off to a sluggish start. Epping FC gave us a run for our money, and players were not being marked. Second half was a better half. Team worked hard and gave it all! Well done. Well done to Bradley for the only goal of the game and to Jordan for giving a great corner!
Next week we are up against the 2nd team on the table - Redbacks! We have to lift our game if we want to stay in the top 4! See you all at View Street at 8am! next week.

Win(2-1) against Beecroft FC

Draw

I expect the boys were a bit nervous going into this match as the last time we played this team we lost. Our goalies played great saving a number of goals and we managed to keep the score nil all through to half time. In the second half we had more tries at goal but both teams defended well and game ended nil all.

Loss(1-2) to Redbacks FC

Fought to the End.....

Gathered at View Street, WPH and it was FREEZING!! Parents on the sideline never thawed out! We were up against team No. 2 - Redbacks, and we gave it our all!
ALL team members had an excellent game. It was 2 nil by half time and after fruit and lollies and some constructive criticism from Coach Gavin, the team went out on the field and soon enough scored a goal (well done William). We had numerous attempts at goal, but were unfortunately blocked by the opposition. Some great saves by Riley as Goalie, but most of all great passing and defence work by all team players.
All players supported the Avner Pancreatic Cancer Foundation by wearing purple socks. See attached photo. Looking forward to playing next week at Pidding Park Ryde, against Ryde Saints United! Go Hawkies!!!!

Win(2-1) against Pennant Hills FC

Well earned win

With no subs we weren’t sure how the boys would go today but within the first minute they had first shot at goal (missed) and within 5 mins had scored

The boys passed really well in the first half, there was some great defense work particularly by Jack P and Finn as goalie who saved a difficult goal. Second goal was an amazing on the run shot.

Second half we had a number of shots at goal but couldn’t find the net. The other team scored a goal through the legs and fumbling of lots of boys. We saw another wonderful goal save by Finn.

SPECTACULAR WIN!!!!

OMG! What an amazing game to watch today and a well deserved win! They definitely wanted the win and to stay in the top 4. All players gave it everything they had and they fought to the very end. Thank you to William for getting out of his sick bed and joining us today and for Bradley for stepping in to being goalie - a brilliant job! 2 goals from William with the help of Chase and a corner kick from Jordan. Well done team you should be very proud of yourselves, just as us parents are! Next week is a bye, but after that (13/7) it will be the last game of the season, before Round Robin! Go Hawkies!!!!

Great win!

Everything worked today. We brought our passing game and finished some good chances. Found ourselves 3-0 up after 20 minutes but had to survive the last 30 minutes with 10 men. Great team effort today!

Strong on paper

We were a bit lacklustre today. On paper we looked good but on the field we let them run too much of the game. It was a close game with chances for both sides but they nabbed the points after coming from behind.

Winners of a close game

Both teams were in need a win and fought hard all game. We had a bizarre penalty awarded after a ball hit the trees from a corner and was picked up by a Hawks player - Blake did the right thing and gave them back the ball from the penalty. We scored shortly after to take the points

Win from behind

We went down 2-0 fairly early but it never felt like we were out of the game. Got one back before halftime to make it 2-1 and then dominated the second half with 3 goals. Great freekick from Matt V to level it up at 2-2. The two Mattys (Vriens and Pullan) were on fire with all the goals today.

Disappointed with a draw

We drew 1-1 with a late equaliser and that felt like the absolute minimum we should have got out of the game. Their keeper had a solid game and pulled off at least 4 saves to keep them in the lead. Good effort today and unlucky not to take all the points.
